On 05/23/2021, Kings County sheriff’s deputies assisted with a vehicle pursuit that began in San Luis Obispo County and ended near CA-33 and Devils Den Road. After the pursuit ended, law enforcement encountered Manuel Beltran Moreno, who police said was armed and wearing a tactical vest. California Highway Patrol officers and Kings County deputies established a perimeter and conducted negotiations while a SWAT team and a crisis resolution team were deployed. The standoff lasted approximately 10 hours. Police reported that during the standoff, Moreno fired a round toward a member of the SWAT team.
