On 05/26/2021, Pinal County sheriff’s deputies responded to a reported domestic violence call involving Efren Gomez and his wife in San Tan Valley. When deputies arrived, Gomez was reported to be harming himself with sharp objects. Police stated that during the encounter, Gomez moved toward deputies while holding scissors. Deputies then fired, shooting and killing Gomez at the scene. No officers were charged, and no final prosecutorial outcome beyond the initial review was publicly reported.
