OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 05/27/2021, Hardin County sheriff’s deputies and Kentucky State Police responded to a call reporting that Alejandro Clarke Jr. was experiencing a psychotic episode and had assaulted his girlfriend near Nolin Road in Sonora. Officers attempted to take Clarke into custody. During the encounter, police reported physical resistance, followed by Clarke being taken to the ground. Multiple officers used batons, fists, boots, and flashlights, deployed Tasers multiple times, and released a police dog during the arrest. An ambulance was present, but Clarke was placed in the back of a police vehicle. He was later found unresponsive and died shortly afterward. A grand jury declined to bring criminal charges against officers. Clarke’s family filed a civil lawsuit, and reporting later confirmed a settlement was awarded to the family, with additional civil claims reported as pending at the time.
