On 05/27/2021, Leah Mae Foster was a passenger in a vehicle traveling through the intersection of Lower Pindell Road and Southern Maryland Boulevard in Lothian when an off-duty Metropolitan Police Department officer struck the car. Foster and the driver of the vehicle were killed in the crash. Prosecutors charged the officer with negligent manslaughter with a vehicle. The case resulted in a conviction, and the officer was sentenced to 18 months in prison.
