On 05/27/2021, Nicholas Raymond Harris was the driver of an SUV attempting to make a left turn from Maryland Route 4 (Southern Maryland Boulevard) onto Lower Pindell Road in Lothian when the vehicle was struck by a Dodge Charger driven by an off-duty Metropolitan Police Department officer. Harris and his front-seat passenger, Leah Mae Foster, both suffered fatal injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene. The off-duty officer was later charged and convicted of negligent manslaughter in connection with the crash.
