On 05/28/2021, Jefferson County sheriff’s deputies went to a residence on Lake Drive to execute a search warrant connected to a missing-person investigation and a possible homicide. Deputies were gathering information outside the home when Anthony Legens became aware of their presence. Police reported that Legens began firing from inside the house, initiating an extended armed standoff. The exchange of gunfire continued for hours. During the incident, a deputy was shot and wounded.
