OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On 05/30/2021, Denver police officers responded to a report of a man entering a liquor store on Alameda Avenue with a rifle and leaving without paying. Officers located Shannon Wright walking along the street nearby and ordered him to stop and raise his hands. Police reported that Wright continued walking despite commands. During a subsequent encounter, officers stated that Wright held the rifle toward them. Officers fired, shooting and killing Wright at the scene. The Denver District Attorney later reviewed the shooting and determined the officers’ use of deadly force was justified. No officers were charged.
