OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On 06/10/2021, Salt Lake City police officers responded to reports of a stabbing at Pioneer Park. While bystanders and emergency workers were providing aid to an injured person, officers encountered Rezek Yaqub Yahya approaching the scene while holding a knife. Officers ordered Yahya to drop the knife. Yahya continued moving toward the scene. Two officers opened fire and shot Yahya. He died from his injuries at the scene. The Salt Lake County District Attorney later ruled the shooting justified. No officers were charged.
