On 06/13/2021, Cobb County police responded to a reported domestic disturbance at a residence on North Shores Road NW in Acworth. During the initial response, police stated that an officer was shot. Police then pursued Luis Rey Ruiz on foot. Ruiz was not immediately located. Several hours later, police deployed a SWAT team to search the surrounding area. Officers located Ruiz outside a nearby home. Police opened fire and killed Ruiz at the scene. He was 20 years old. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation opened an inquiry into the police shooting. No officers were charged in connection with the death, and the investigation was reported as pending at the time of initial coverage.
