OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On 06/21/2021, a Lonoke County sheriff’s deputy conducted a traffic stop involving Noah Hunter Brittain on Arkansas Highway 89. During the stop, Brittain exited his truck while holding an oil jug. According to a passenger who was present, the truck would not shift into park and Brittain intended to place the jug behind the tire to prevent the vehicle from rolling. Deputy Michael Davis opened fire and shot Brittain, killing him at the scene. Brittain was 17 years old and unarmed. Body-worn camera footage was not activated during the stop. Davis was later charged, convicted of negligent homicide, and sentenced to one year in prison. Civil litigation related to the shooting was pending and later expanded as additional lawsuits were filed by Brittain’s family.
