On 07/17/2021, Maurice Sentel Mincey was shot and killed by an officer with the Savannah Police Department during a traffic stop in Savannah, Georgia. Police stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation in which Mincey was a passenger. During the stop, police reported that Mincey was holding a firearm as he exited the vehicle. An officer opened fire, striking Mincey. He died at the scene. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation reviewed the shooting, and the district attorney later declined to prosecute the officer involved.
