On 07/18/2021, Leslie Stephen Scarlett was shot and killed by officers with the Tucson Police Department in Tucson, Arizona. Scarlett allegedly shot multiple people — including EMTs, a firefighter, and a neighbor — after a house fire and shooting at an ambulance crew. A neighbor was killed during this spree. Police encountered Scarlett following a series of incidents at multiple locations. During the encounter near East 36th Street and South Campbell Avenue, a police vehicle was struck. As an officer exited a patrol vehicle, police reported that Scarlett fired a gun. Officers opened fire, striking Scarlett. He died at the scene.
