On 07/20/2021, Nevada Japoy Lee Escholt died from a gunshot wound during a police response in Salt Lake City, Utah. Police responded to a report of a suicidal man at a residence near West 800 North and Redwood Road. Officers made contact with Escholt, and gunfire occurred during the encounter. Police later entered the home and found Escholt deceased. Authorities stated they could not determine whether Escholt died as a result of police gunfire or from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
