On 07/27/2021, Alexis C. Wilson was shot and killed by officers with the Dolton Police Department in Dolton, Illinois. Police responded to a 911 call from employees at a restaurant reporting a woman banging on the drive-thru window with what was described as a gun. Officers arrived in marked squad cars and ordered Wilson and a passenger to exit the vehicle. The passenger complied and stepped out of the vehicle, but Wilson did not exit. Police attempted to remove Wilson from the driver’s seat. Wilson accelerated the vehicle, dragging an officer who was partially inside, and struck a police SUV. Officers discharged their firearms at Wilson as the vehicle moved away. Wilson’s vehicle then crashed into a nearby building and she was pronounced dead at the scene. The Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office reviewed the evidence and declined to pursue criminal charges against the officers involved. The family claimed the facts were withheld from them for days and later filed a federal lawsuit alleging excessive force by the officers.
