OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 08/09/2021, deputies from the Whitfield County Sheriff’s Department in Georgia responded to multiple 911 calls reporting a shooting near Chattanooga Road and Westgate Drive in Rocky Face. When deputies arrived they encountered an armed man, identified as Steven Ray Bailey. According to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, deputies attempted to negotiate with Bailey for several minutes before he began firing a handgun at them. Deputies returned fire, striking Bailey multiple times. He was transported to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. The GBI conducted an independent investigation and turned it over to the Whitfield County District Attorney’s Office for review.
