Daniel Turney Crowley, a 31-year-old male, was shot and killed by officers from the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department on August 11, 2021, in Nashville, Tennessee. At approximately 5:00 a.m., an officer conducted a business check at a Cricket Wireless store and noticed a vehicle with an Alabama license plate parked outside. The officer approached the vehicle and observed that the man inside had a knife, prompting a call for backup at 5:05 a.m. Additional officers arrived at 5:06 a.m., and shortly after, Crowley reportedly exited the vehicle and charged the officers with a knife. Officers opened fire and fatally shot Crowley at 5:07 a.m.

On August 11, 2021, at approximately 5:24 a.m., a Pearl Police officer attempted to stop a 2005 tan Lincoln Town Car for speeding on Pearson Road near Old Whitfield Road. The driver, identified as 30-year-old Akeem Jihad Carson of Canton, Mississippi, did not stop. Police escalated a chase that lasted until Carson lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a wooded area near Monterey Road. Emergency responders extricated Carson from the vehicle, and he was transported to the University of Mississippi Medical Center, where he later died from his injuries.

Around midnight, an officer from the Clearwater Police Department attempted to make a traffic stop of a 2002 Suzuki sport utility vehicle driven by Pedro Castro, 36, of Tampa. Castro made a U-turn on Court Street, and the officer reportedly did not pursue. The SUV continued west on Chestnut Street, driving against one-way traffic. In an attempt to avoid a head-on collision with an oncoming vehicle, Castro swerved and crashed into a nearby building. The passenger of the SUV, Sasha Marie Hudtwalcker-Grey, was killed in the crash.

Three officers entered the home and encountered Wiesner holding a firearm. Officers exited the residence, and Wiesner followed them outside. According to police, Wiesner continued moving toward officers in the street and did not comply with commands to drop the gun. As Wiesner approached one of the officers, an officer fired a shot, killing him at the scene. The Kane County State’s Attorney later ruled the shooting justified, and no officers were charged.

On August 10, 2021, at approximately 9:10 p.m., a Pamlico County Sheriff's Deputy arrived at 1773 Kennels Beach Road to serve an arrest warrant for 71-year-old Marvin Richard Hitchcock Jr., who had failed to appear in court on charges of driving while impaired and related offenses. Hitchcock was armed with a handgun upon the deputy's arrival, prompting the deputy to request backup. Additional law enforcement officers from the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, Oriental Police Department, and North Carolina Probation and Parole responded to the location.

On 08/09/2021, Tustin police responded to a call reporting an unhoused man near a mobile home park who had been seen holding a knife the previous day. Officers located Luis Manuel Garcia-Arias sleeping on the ground behind bushes near the property. According to reporting, officers spoke with Garcia-Arias and he agreed to come out. Border Patrol agents tracked a group of migrants for several hours, eventually apprehending seven individuals, including a man from El Salvador. After being handcuffed to two other migrants, the man became unruly, leading agents to separate him. He attempted to escape but was quickly apprehended again. Deputies were dispatched to the Walmart Supercenter regarding a suspicious person. Employees identified Randal Boyd Burton as a known shoplifter and advised deputies of his vehicle's location. As deputies approached the vehicle, Burton discharged a handgun toward them. Burton fled on foot, and deputies ordered him to drop the weapon. On August 8, 2021, around 11:00 p.m., White County Sheriff's deputies pursued a black 2013 BMW X3 driven by Joshua Brown, 23, from Springfield, Illinois, westbound on State Road 18 into Brookston. The vehicle passed State Road 43 onto Third Street at a high rate of speed, ran off the road, hit a tree, and came to rest against an abandoned house on Ripley Street.

The driver, Joshua Brown, attempted to flee on foot but was quickly apprehended by deputies. Inside the vehicle, deputies found three adults, one juvenile, one toddler, and one infant. Despite lifesaving efforts, 21-year-old Jaliyah Johnson and 4-month-old Jeremiah Brown were pronounced deceased at the scene by the White County Coroner.
Another passenger, Eric Stokes, was transported to a Monticello area hospital. The juvenile passenger was transported by helicopter to a South Bend area hospital, and the toddler was transported by helicopter to an Indianapolis area hospital.

Further investigation revealed that Joshua Brown was under the influence of a controlled substance. He was transported to a Lafayette area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and later taken to the White County Jail. On August 8, 2021, at approximately 2:00 a.m., a shooting occurred in the parking lot of The District nightclub, located at 4607 Johnston Street in Lafayette, Louisiana. The venue had hosted a concert by Baton Rouge rapper Webbie earlier that evening.
An off-duty moonlighting Lafayette Police Department officer, working security at the event, approached a group involved in an altercation. The officer claims that as he approached, one or more individuals fired at him. The officer returned fire, killing Dashawn "Big Top" Batiste, a 22-year-old man from Breaux Bridge. A female bystander was also shot and sustained non-life-threatening injuries. The officer was unharmed and was not wearing a body camera at the time of the incident.

Louisiana State Police conducted an investigation and determined there was no probable cause to charge the officer. In September 2022, a wrongful death lawsuit was filed by Batiste's daughter, alleging that inadequate security measures at The District contributed to the fatal incident. The lawsuit names The District, Lafayette Consolidated Government, and an unnamed Lafayette Police officer as defendants.

On August 7, 2021, at approximately 12:44 a.m., Bismarck police officers responded to a report of a man acting erratically and screaming outside a residence on East Turnpike Avenue. Upon arrival, officers observed 43-year-old Ryan Pederson attempting to jump a privacy fence into a neighboring property. Pederson appeared agitated, allegedly yelled at officers, and advanced toward them. Police engaged him in a physical altercation while attempting to arrest him.

During the struggle, Pederson was Tasered. It is unknown how many times the Taser was deployed or in which manner. Pederson immediately struggled with control of his arms and legs, suffering a medical emergency. He was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. He had been unarmed.

An autopsy revealed that Pederson had amphetamine and methamphetamine in his system, which is known to enhance the effects of Taser usage. The Burleigh County State’s Attorney's Office cleared the officers of any wrongdoing.

On August 7, 2021, around 1:30 a.m., Ukiah Police attempted to stop a 2017 Volkswagen Beetle for running a red light. The 15-year-old driver fled south on U.S. Highway 101 at over 100 mph. After exiting at Rivino Ranch Road, the car went airborne at the intersection with Burke Hill Drive, crashed into a tree, and landed upside down. Passenger Selena Clark-Quintero, 14, of Potter Valley, died at the scene. The driver and another passenger, a 13-year-old from Ukiah, suffered major injuries.

On August 7, 2021, Bakersfield Police responded to a domestic violence call and separate reports that Che Noe Zuniga Jr., 21, had fired at a security guard. Officers attempted a traffic stop, but Zuniga fled in a green Chevy pickup. The pursuit ended when he crashed near Harris and Stine Roads and fled on foot. Officers later found him hiding in a trash can on the 5700 block of Autumn Crest Drive. When discovered, Zuniga reportedly charged officers and was shot and killed. The California Department of Justice investigated and found the officers’ use of force lawful.

On 08/07/2021, Santa Rosa Police officers pursued a stolen vehicle through the city. During the pursuit, the fleeing vehicle crashed into another car. An uninvolved person in the struck vehicle was killed as a result of the collision. The driver of the stolen vehicle was taken into custody, and the incident was investigated by authorities.

Around 10:34 p.m. on August 6, 2021, Clarksville Police Department officers responded to 681 Ellie Nat Drive regarding a report of a person attempting to cut another person with a knife. Upon arrival, officers found a victim who had sustained injuries from a knife. The man entered the residence, allegedly to retrieve a firearm, leading to a standoff lasting nearly 12 hours. At approximately 9:41 a.m., the individual was found deceased inside the residence from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

On August 6, 2021, at approximately 8:30 p.m., New York State Police troopers responded to reports of a shooting at a residence in Delancey, New York. Upon arrival, they discovered 28-year-old William Effner had been shot. Roger Peter Lynch, 59, who was allegedly involved in the shooting, left.

Troopers later located Lynch's vehicle along State Route 28 and followed it to his residence. When Lynch pulled into his driveway, he fired shots at the troopers. He then locked himself inside the home.

Troopers, unharmed by the gunfire, engaged in communication with Lynch overnight and into the early morning hours. At approximately 7 a.m., Lynch appeared on the porch of his home and allegedly pointed a weapon toward the officers. In response, the troopers shot and killed Lynch.

On 08/06/2021, special agents with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) and members of the Alabama Drug Enforcement Task Force were involved in an officer-involved shooting near the Good Hope community in Cullman County, Alabama. Nathan Larry Parsons, 49, of Gardendale, was pronounced dead at the scene. According to official statements, the shooting occurred around 1:30 p.m. and involved officers and special agents working as part of a multi-agency effort to enforce narcotics laws. No officers or agents were reported to have been injured during the incident. The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency reported the investigation was ongoing at the time, and findings were to be turned over to the Cullman County District Attorney’s Office.

On 08/06/2021, Coeur d’Alene police responded to reports that Hayden Charles McIlvain had repeatedly violated a no-contact order with a local family and had made threatening comments while armed, including repeated unwanted contact involving minor children. Officers moved the family to safety and obtained a warrant for first-degree stalking. When officers attempted to arrest McIlvain at his residence on Carrington Lane, he barricaded himself inside the home. Officers from multiple agencies, including SWAT units, spent several hours at the scene attempting to resolve the situation without force. According to police, at some point a shot was fired from inside the residence toward the surrounding officers. A Coeur d’Alene police officer fired one shot at McIlvain, who was later found dead inside the home. The Northern Idaho Critical Incident Task Force was contacted to investigate the shooting, with the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office as the lead investigating agency.
