OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 08/10/2021, El Mirage police responded to a report of a break-in at a Walgreens where officers found broken glass indicating forced entry. While officers were at the store, they received a second call reporting a suspicious person nearby. Officers located Johan Alexis Salazar and attempted to arrest him. According to police, Salazar moved away from officers and was believed to be holding a firearm. During the encounter, two officers fired multiple shots, killing him. The Maricopa County Attorney’s Office later reviewed the case and cleared the officers of criminal charges.
