On 08/11/2021, law enforcement responded to a domestic disturbance involving Brooks Hacker and his girlfriend at a residence in Juniata, Nebraska. According to reporting, Hacker’s girlfriend told police that he had fired gunshots in her direction. Officers established a perimeter around the home, and police stated that Hacker fired shots from inside the residence, striking law enforcement vehicles. A SWAT team was called to the scene, and police reported that Hacker continued firing from inside the home. After several hours, officers deployed tear gas in an attempt to bring him out. Hacker exited the residence reportedly holding a firearm, and a SWAT team member fired, killing him. A grand jury later reviewed the incident and ruled the shooting justified.
