OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On 08/11/2021, deputies from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Office responded around 9 a.m. to a reported disturbance involving a man at a bus stop at Park Avenue and Palmdale Road in Victorville. Deputies handcuffed Rodney Coleman without incident. When a deputy attempted to close the patrol car door, Coleman allegedly kicked the deputy and exited the vehicle. The deputy suffered a minor injury. Emergency responders provided aid to the deputy. While medical personnel were assisting the deputy, Coleman reportedly suffered a medical emergency and died. The death prompted a civil lawsuit; the family later secured a settlement with the sheriff’s department.
