On 08/14/2021, a Nebraska State Patrol trooper shot and killed 80-year-old John A. Vogel while police were responding to a dispute between neighbors near Sheridan and Jay streets in St. Paul. Howard County sheriff’s deputies, St. Paul police officers and Nebraska state troopers all responded to the incident.
At approximately 12:30 p.m., the Howard County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a disturbance involving two neighbors. Police reported that one of the people involved had discharged a firearm during the dispute.
