On 08/15/2021, deputies from the Newberry County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports that Phillip John Walden had carjacked a vehicle in the Chapin area of South Carolina. Deputies located the vehicle and chased it along Interstate 26. According to limited reporting, the pursuit ended when deputies used force against Walden. He was shot and killed at the scene.
