On 08/18/2021, Cobb County police initiated a traffic stop in Marietta, Georgia, after officers reported observing a vehicle driving erratically. According to police, the driver, identified as Devonte Dawayne Brown, did not comply and continued driving. Officers later surrounded Brown’s vehicle and boxed it in. Police stated that Brown attempted to move the vehicle back and forth in an effort to escape, striking multiple police vehicles before the airbags deployed. An officer then fired multiple shots into the vehicle, killing Brown at the scene. A grand jury later reviewed the case and declined to bring charges. The incident later resulted in a civil lawsuit.
