On 08/21/2021, deputies from the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a domestic dispute at 186 Maggie Lane in Allenhurst, Georgia. Deputies encountered Daryl Jay Carr at the residence and police stated the situation escalated into a hostage situation involving Carr’s wife and three children. A special response team was dispatched and negotiators secured the release of the three children. During ongoing negotiations, police stated Carr said he would shoot law enforcement if they attempted entry. At one point Carr’s wife exited the home by jumping from an upper floor onto a trampoline set up by officers during the negotiation process. After negotiations were no longer effective, the special response team deployed tear gas and a flash device to make entry. Police stated that while attempting entry, they encountered Carr on an upstairs landing and shots were fired. Carr was struck and transported to Liberty Regional Medical Center, where he later died. Authorities stated a firearm was located. An independent investigation by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation was underway at the time of reporting.
