On 08/27/2021, officers from the Honolulu Police Department responded to a call from Brandon Ventura, who police stated reported that he was armed and suicidal. Police stated a negotiation team spoke with Ventura for several hours, during which they alleged he held a gun to his head. Police stated an officer fired a less-lethal bean bag round and officers attempted to gain control of the gun. During the struggle, police alleged Ventura pointed the handgun at an officer. Officers opened fire and killed him.
