On 08/31/2021, Metropolitan Police Department officers responded to reports of a person on a balcony at the intersection of 14th Street NW and V Street NW in Washington, DC. Police stated they encountered George David Watson and spoke with him multiple times. Police alleged Watson pointed a firearm toward officers. At least one officer opened fire and shot Watson, killing him. Police later stated the object he was holding was a paintball or airsoft gun.
