On 08/31/2021, deputies and officers responded to a report of a property fire at 42nd Street in Martelle, Iowa. Police stated they encountered Jeremy Michael Berg and alleged he was holding a knife. Police stated officers ordered Berg to drop the knife and that he did not comply. Police stated five officers opened fire and shot and killed Berg at the scene.
