On 09/02/2021, a passing motorist called 911 to report a person standing near a motorcycle and waving a gun at Sheridan Boulevard and I-76 in Arvada, Colorado. Police stated a deputy arrived and found the motorcycle unoccupied. Police stated a man matching the description approached the deputy. Police alleged that during the conversation, Christopher Derby removed a handgun from his waistband and pointed it toward the deputy. The deputy opened fire and shot and killed Derby.
