On 09/13/2021, deputies with the San Juan County Sheriff’s Office were serving a search warrant at a residence on County Road 3935 in Farmington, New Mexico. Police stated the warrant was related to an alleged assault reported earlier that day. Police alleged Tedman Werito threw an object described as a non functioning grenade from the residence. Police stated deputies deployed flashbang devices and tear gas. Police alleged Werito later pointed an object they believed to be a firearm toward deputies. Deputies opened fire and shot and killed Werito. Police later stated the firearm was a replica.
