On 12/20/2021, at approximately 1: 25 p.m., deputies from the Macomb County Sheriff's Office observed a stolen pickup truck in Mount Clemens. When they attempted to arrest the driver, he fled at high speeds, colliding with at least one undercover deputy's vehicle. Shortly after, a report of a crash was received, where Linda Jozefiak was fatally injured at the intersection of Cass Avenue and South Rose Street.

On December 19, 2021, at approximately 7:43 p.m., a deputy from the Chemung County Sheriff's Office observed a 2018 Honda motorcycle traveling east at a high rate of speed on W. Water Street in West Elmira, New York. The deputy attempted to stop the motorcycle, which had been reported stolen out of Ithaca. The motorcyclist, identified as 36-year-old James Thigpen, initially slowed down but then turned around and sped westbound on W. Water Street, driving against the flow of one-way traffic.
The deputy did not pursue the motorcycle further and radioed the Communications Center to report the situation. Shortly afterward, the motorcycle collided with a 2016 Ford Fusion. Thigpen was pronounced dead at the scene.

On December 19, 2021, 62-year-old Walter Passmore of Loganville was killed by a police pursuit in Walton County, Georgia. Police had escalated a chase when deputies attempted to stop Passmore's vehicle for a traffic violation. Passmore did not stop. Police began a chase that ended when his vehicle collided with another car at the intersection of Highway 11 and Monroe Jersey Road. Passmore was life-flighted to Atlanta Medical Center with serious injuries and later succumbed to those injuries. The driver of the other vehicle was transported to Piedmont Walton Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The Georgia State Patrol is investigating the incident.

On 12/19/2021, at approximately 5: 57 p.m., the Detroit Police Department received multiple calls reporting Nakita Williams waving a gun at customers and employees at the entrance of a Sunoco gas station located at 15201 7 Mile E in Detroit. Four officers responded to the scene. Upon arrival, they found Williams pointing what was later identified as an Airsoft gun at customers. The officers then shot and killed her.

On 12/19/2021, Pasco Police officers attempted to stop a pickup truck for suspected impaired driving on U.S. Highway 395 and escalated a pursuit when the driver continued driving through city streets at speed. During the chase the fleeing vehicle entered the intersection at Lewis Street and crashed into a vehicle driven by Maria Guadalupe Mendoza. The collision killed Mendoza at the scene. Police arrested the driver after treatment for minor injuries and prosecutors later charged him with vehicular homicide and DUI related offenses. Reporting identified Mendoza as a 44 year old Grandview resident whose death occurred when police escalated the pursuit through the corridor before the fatal impact.

On December 17, 2021, at approximately 4:00 a.m., a 14-year-old boy called the police to report that his mother's boyfriend had arrived at their apartment on Alpha Court in Lake Clarke Shores, Florida, armed with a gun. On December 16, 2021, at approximately 3:10 a.m., an off-duty NYPD lieutenant was leaving La Boom nightclub at 56-15 Northern Boulevard in Queens when he was confronted by several armed individuals wearing masks. The men attempted to rob the officer, possibly targeting his jewelry.

A gunfight ensued, during which the off-duty lieutenant fired eight shots, and the men fired nine shots. The officer sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was transported to Elmhurst Hospital in critical but stable condition. On December 16, 2021, at approximately 2:30 a.m., officers from the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department responded to a report of an abandoned Chevrolet Impala with its doors open on Old Hickory Boulevard West in Madison. Witnesses reported hearing gunfire from a nearby wooded area. Officers arrived and believed the gunfire was directed toward them. For about 40 minutes, they repeatedly ordered the individual to surrender. The individual, later identified as 39-year-old Anthony Marcell Phillips, emerged from the woods, appeared to ingest a substance, and shouted expletives. He then fired two shots at the officers. Officer Ricardo Cruz returned fire with a shotgun, fatally wounding Phillips. A semi-automatic 9 mm pistol was recovered from the scene. Phillips had a warrant for tampering with an electronic monitoring device and was a convicted sex offender. No officers were injured in the incident. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is conducting an investigation into the shooting.

On 12/15/2021, Hobart-Lawrence police officers responded to a 911 call reporting a domestic disturbance at an apartment on Centerline Drive after a woman reported that Jeffrey Patnode threatened to kill her and fired a handgun. Officers arrived, secured the complex, and established a perimeter while attempting contact. Police escalated the operation with SWAT support, tactical vehicles, and officers from multiple agencies while conducting a search after determining Patnode had moved into nearby woods. Officers deployed drones and robots during the prolonged containment and located him in the wooded area after several hours. Police then heard a gunshot and found Patnode with a self-inflicted wound; he was transported to a hospital and pronounced dead, ending the roughly ten-hour standoff.

On December 15, 2021, at approximately 5:30 a.m., Elkhart Police Department officers responded to a report of a man attempting to break a liquor store window using a bicycle near the intersection of West Hively and Benham Avenues in Elkhart, Indiana. Upon arrival, officers encountered 20-year-old Jahad Patterson in a nearby parking lot.
When officers identified themselves and ordered Patterson to show his hands, he allegedly drew a firearm and began raising it toward Officer Scott Swanson. In response, Officer Swanson and Sergeant Benjimin Martin discharged their weapons, fatally striking Patterson.

A .380 caliber handgun was recovered from Patterson, with his finger still inside the trigger guard. The Elkhart County Prosecutor's Office later determined that the officers' use of deadly force was justified, citing self-defense.

On December 15, 2021, at approximately 2:00 p.m., Memphis Police officers were investigating a stolen 2014 Ford Fusion reported missing from Olive Branch, Mississippi. The vehicle was located in the drive-thru line of a McDonald's restaurant at 3120 S 3rd St in Memphis. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver, later identified as 25-year-old Kayla Lucas, accelerated in reverse, striking a police vehicle. An officer opened fire, striking Lucas, who was pronounced dead at the scene.The family of Kayla Lucas filed a lawsuit, claiming that the use of force was excessive and wrongful, asserting that Lucas posed no immediate threat to officers when she was shot.

On December 15, 2021, around 10:30 a.m., deputies from the Lincoln County Sheriff's Department were called to investigate an unknown vehicle in the 700 block of South Walnut Street, North Platte. They found Keith Alan Hinrichsen, 52, inside the vehicle. When deputies approached, Hinrichsen allegedly got out of the car and moved towards them. Police shot and killed him. On 12/15/2021, Anderson County deputies attempted to stop a vehicle driven by Brandon Mauldin based on outstanding warrants. Mauldin continued driving and deputies chased the vehicle to a dead end behind a residence on Queen Anne Lane where the truck became stuck. Deputies exited their vehicles and issued commands. Officers opened fire during the confrontation and struck him. He died behind the residence. Authorities initiated review of the shooting and reported no criminal charges against deputies.

On December 14, 2021, deputies from the Pender County Sheriff's Office attempted to serve a domestic violence protective order to Kevin Glenn Swinson, 45, at his residence in the Canetuck community near Currie, North Carolina. During the encounter, Swinson reportedly armed himself with a rifle and pointed it at the deputies. Deputies Grant Simme and John Dragocastano discharged their firearms, fatally wounding Swinson. Both deputies were placed on administrative leave during the investigation. The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) reviewed the incident and determined that the use of deadly force was justified, as Swinson posed an imminent threat to the deputies' safety.

On December 14, 2021, law enforcement attempted to stop Bobby Lee Byrd Jr., 40, in Mitchell County, North Carolina, leading to a vehicle pursuit. The chase continued into Yancey County, where Trooper Kevin Glenn of the North Carolina State Highway Patrol was deploying a tire deflation device on US-19E near Newdale Church Road. During this operation, Byrd fired at the officers, striking Trooper Glenn. Yancey County deputies returned fire, hitting Byrd. The pursuit concluded when Byrd's vehicle crashed. Byrd was transported to Blue Ridge Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Trooper Glenn sustained injuries and later recovered at home.

On 12/14/2021, at approximately 6:48 a.m., Dayton Police Department officers responded to reports of a shooting near Hoover Avenue and Evergreen Avenue, where a 49-year-old man was allegedly shot in the leg by William Gardner, who had fired multiple shots at the man while he was walking his dog. Gardner then retreated to his home.

SWAT officers established a perimeter and pressured Gardner for hours. Approximately three hours later, Gardner came out of his home with a handgun. Police alleged that he walked toward SWAT officers and that they feared for their lives. Multiple SWAT officers fired assault rifles, killing Gardner.

The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office is conducting an investigation into the shooting, while the Dayton Police Department's Professional Standards Bureau is performing an internal review.

On December 13, 2021, at approximately 9:00 a.m., deputies from the Torrance County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of shots fired at a residence on West Alan Ayers Road in Estancia. A caller reported that a male, wearing a black hoodie and a red facemask, entered her backyard and fired at least one shot before fleeing westbound on West Alan Ayers Road. A deputy located the man near West Alan Ayers Road and Lassiter Road. For reasons still under investigation, the deputy discharged his duty weapon at least once, striking the man. Despite administering first aid, the man was pronounced dead at the scene by the Office of the Medical Investigator. The New Mexico State Police Investigations Bureau is leading the investigation into the incident.

Police reported Hollins appeared in the doorway holding improvised incendiary devices and fired toward nearby houses. Hollins exited the residence with a shotgun and an officer opened fire and struck him. He died outside the home. On 12/12/2021, at approximately 3:15 p.m., Cleveland Police Department officers responded to reports of a man, Patrick Horton, walking near Superior Avenue and East 12th Street, pointing a gun at vehicles and firing into the air.

Upon arrival, officers ordered Horton to drop the gun. He reportedly complied, placed the gun on the ground, but then, in an undisclosed series of events, retrieved it and allegedly began firing at police. Officers Sean Grace and Matthew Gulak opened fire, striking Horton. He was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.

The incident is under investigation by the Cuyahoga County Sheriff's Office and the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation.

On December 11, 2021, at approximately 3:15 a.m., Kokomo Police attempted to stop a 2016 Nissan in the area of Mulberry and Washington Streets. The vehicle did not stop, and officers initiated a pursuit. After losing sight of the vehicle, officers terminated the chase. Shortly thereafter, police were dispatched to a crash at North Berkley Road and West Jefferson Street. The Nissan had collided with a Dodge Ram while heading westbound. Sydney Leigh Glenn, a 24-year-old passenger in the Nissan, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver and another passenger were injured, as was the driver of the Dodge Ram.

On 12/11/2021, Elizabethtown Police responded to a report of a vehicle at Wingfield Court and approached Christopher Sterusky while he was inside the vehicle. An officer directed him to exit and began speaking with him on the roadway. A physical confrontation occurred between the officer and Sterusky and the officer opened fire and struck him. He died at that location. A grand jury later declined to indict the officer and civil litigation followed the shooting.
