On 12/09/2021, 16-year-old Debra Ward was fatally injured when a stolen Mercedes SUV in which she was a passenger crashed at Northeast Lowry Avenue and Hayes Street Northeast during a high-speed pursuit by Robbinsdale Police Department officers.

The Mercedes reached speeds between 60 and 110 mph on Lowry Avenue while the driver ran red lights, passed vehicles and drove into oncoming traffic. The Mercedes subsequently went out of control at Lowry Avenue and Hayes Street Northeast, struck a tree and split into two sections. Officers subsequently located a stolen vehicle matching the description near Cass and Eastern Avenue. Police attempted a traffic stop and escalated a high-speed pursuit westbound on Cass Street when the driver continued driving away.

Police lost sight of the vehicle as it crossed the Cass Street Bridge, but other Joliet officers subsequently located it traveling west on Western Avenue and continued the pursuit. Police alleged they discontinued the pursuit because the vehicle was traveling at high speed through residential neighborhoods without headlights.

Shortly afterward, the vehicle crashed into a large tree in the 1100 block of Glenwood Avenue at approximately 8:44 p.m. The impact caused the vehicle to catch fire. Seventeen-year-old passenger Kahleel Gaines-Streeter was killed. Two other teenagers were critically injured and hospitalized. On December 7, 2021, at approximately 7:30 a.m., a concerned neighbor contacted the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office, reporting that 88-year-old Ronald Ehrich had not been seen for two days. Deputies responded to his residence on Longcrest Drive. Deputy Anastacia Castillo, who had been with the department since 2015, entered the home to conduct a welfare check. As she ascended the stairs, she knocked on a bedroom door and announced her presence. When there was no response, she knocked again and heard a male voice indicating he was armed. Ehrich then opened the door and advanced toward Deputy Castillo with a firearm. Fearing for her life, Deputy Castillo discharged her service weapon, fatally wounding Ehrich. He was later pronounced dead at St. Joseph's Hospital. Deputy Castillo had no prior history of using deadly force. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the incident.

On December 7, 2021, at approximately 9:00 p.m., deputies from the Bernalillo County Sheriff's Office responded to a domestic violence call at the Las Mañanitas apartment complex near Coors and Montaño in Albuquerque. The victim had previously reported a domestic violence incident at an Allsup's gas station earlier in the day. Upon arrival, deputies arrested Mario Armando Diaz, 41, at the apartment complex.
