On 09/23/2021, Elk Grove police responded after being called by the Cosumnes Fire Department regarding a man reported to be acting erratically next to a vehicle stopped in the roadway. Police stated officers attempted to detain David Anthony Bocci, which led to resistance and a physical struggle. Officers restrained him with handcuffs while he was seated on the ground. Police alleged Bocci repeatedly struck his head on the concrete while restrained. He was transported to a hospital, where he died later that afternoon. Bocci’s mother had contacted authorities and stated her son had been diagnosed with bipolar disorder and schizophrenia and had had interruptions in his medication.
