On 10/10/2021, Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies were patrolling a residential area of Whittier, California, when they observed Isaiah Guevara walking in the roadway near Obregon Street. Deputies stopped their patrol vehicle to speak with him. According to the department, Guevara produced a firearm while deputies remained inside their vehicle. Deputies opened fire from the patrol car, striking Guevara. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Deputies did not exit the vehicle before the shooting. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and the California Department of Justice initiated investigations into the incident.
