On 10/10/2021, deputies from the Houston County Sheriff’s Office responded to a reported burglary at a business along U.S. Highway 231 in Sylacauga, Alabama. Deputies reported seeing Perry Lamar Stringfellow Jr. loading an air conditioning unit into a vehicle. Deputies ordered him to stop. Police stated that Stringfellow instead drove the vehicle toward deputies. Deputies opened fire, striking Stringfellow. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The shooting was referred for external review.
