On 10/14/2021, deputies with the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office attempted to stop a motorcycle in the Anderson area of South Carolina. The driver continued driving and police chased him through local roads. During the encounter, deputies reported gunfire involving the motorcycle. Deputies opened fire. The motorcycle then crashed, and Robert Allen Maness was pronounced dead at the scene. The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division conducted the investigation. The case later resulted in a civil lawsuit, which was resolved with a financial settlement to Maness’s family.
