On 10/17/2021, Fort Smith police officers responded to reports of a fight involving weapons at a residence on Tilles Avenue in Fort Smith, Arkansas. Upon arrival, an officer encountered Christofer Conner and observed him striking a child with a brick. The officer ordered Conner to stop, and Conner initially complied. When the officer attempted to place Conner in handcuffs, police reported that Conner produced a sharp object and injured the officer. The officer opened fire, striking Conner. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The injured officer was treated for non life threatening injuries. The shooting was reviewed and the officer was cleared of wrongdoing.
