On 10/29/2021, an off-duty Massachusetts State Police trooper drove a vehicle on Interstate 93 in Boston while intoxicated. The trooper struck a highway median and came to a stop in the roadway. Christopher Zike, who was riding a motorcycle, then crashed into the trooper’s disabled vehicle and was killed. Prosecutors charged the trooper with motor vehicle homicide and operating under the influence. He later pleaded guilty and was sentenced to approximately two and a half years in prison.
