OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 12/31/2021, deputies responded to a domestic violence call in Woodcrest and did not locate Dennis McHugh at the scene. Officers later tracked his vehicle to the 400 block of E 4th Street in Beaumont with assistance from a helicopter. Officers approached his vehicle while he was in a drive through line and attempted to arrest him. McHugh continued driving and struck multiple vehicles, including police vehicles and a civilian vehicle. Officers opened fire during the encounter and McHugh died in the vehicle. The Riverside County District Attorney’s Office reviewed the shooting and involved officers were placed on administrative leave.
