On 12/31/2021, Meridian Police responded to reports of a disturbance at a residence on the 1500 block of 21st Street and encountered a man covered in blood and holding firearms. Police exchanged gunfire with the man at the residence. Officers opened fire and killed a male and female at the location. The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation took control of the case and placed involved officers on administrative leave while the shooting was reviewed.
