On 12/27/2021, Lyndon Mcleod shot multiple people at several locations across Denver and Lakewood within about an hour, killing five and wounding two others before traveling into Lakewood. Police encountered him near a hotel district in Lakewood where gunfire occurred between him and a Lakewood officer. He shot the officer, and the officer opened fire and struck him. Mcleod died at that location from gunshot wounds. Authorities later documented that the officer survived the injuries, and prosecutors cleared the involved officers after review of the use of force.
