OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On 12/24/2021, DeKalb County Police responded to a reported shoplifting incident at a retail store on Gresham Road during busy holiday shopping hours. Officers contacted Benny Antonio Hood inside the store and police engaged him in a shootout in the retail area while customers were present. Officers opened fire and struck Hood. He died after being transported from the store location for medical treatment. Authorities documented recovery of a firearm and initiated a review of the shooting.
