OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 11/30/2021, Clayton County Police Department officers responded at approximately 8:38 p.m. to 911 calls reporting a domestic disturbance at 3668 Jervis Court in Rex. Additional callers reported that shots had been fired. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation later identified the man police killed as Arthur Allen Gilliam, 35, of Rex.

When officers arrived, they encountered the aftermath of multiple shootings. Police found a woman motionless outside the residence, and a 12-year-old boy who had been shot in the face directed officers toward the house. Authorities subsequently identified the two women killed before police arrived as Mary Gilliam, 70, and Dominique Bibbins, 32. Police alleged that Arthur Gilliam shot both women and the child.

While officers attempted to locate the wounded child and provide aid to the woman outside, police reported receiving gunfire from an unknown location. According to the GBI, officers then encountered Gilliam armed with a gun. Gilliam allegedly shot Clayton County Police Officer Henry Laxson and another officer. Laxson was fatally wounded; the second officer, later identified as Alex Chandler, survived a gunshot wound to the hand.

Police reported that Gilliam moved toward the rear of the residence, where additional officers encountered him. Gunfire was exchanged, and Clayton County police shot Gilliam. He died at the scene.
