OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On 11/26/2021, United States Marine Corps Military Police at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot near 2200 W. Washington St. stopped Travers Spargo King after he drove toward the installation entry area without authorization. Personnel ordered him to halt and he exited his vehicle holding a knife and moved toward them. Military police fired their weapons and struck him, and he died at the scene. The confrontation shut down access near the depot and prompted a federal investigative review of the use of force.
