On 11/16/2021, New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to 977 Bozeman Road after reports that a child had been taken while a knife was being held during the incident. Deputies arrived and confronted Henry Timberlake Duncan while he was holding a knife against the child. Specialized response personnel secured the child during the confrontation and deputies fired their weapons during the encounter. Duncan was struck and died at the scene. Prosecutors later reviewed the use of force and declined charges following the investigation.
