OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On 12/05/2021, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department officers responded to reports of vehicle break-ins in the 2400 block of West Serene Avenue and located Michael Guillory inside a vehicle. Officers surrounded the vehicle and maintained a standoff lasting more than two hours. Officers fired less-lethal shotgun rounds, released a police dog, deployed a conducted energy weapon, restrained him, and took him into custody. Guillory lost consciousness and never recovered. He died the following day at a hospital, where the coroner determined the immediate cause of death was pulmonary embolism. Reporting described Guillory as a U.S. Army veteran with documented mental health struggles, and his death later became part of broader scrutiny over non-shooting deaths involving force by Las Vegas police.
