On 12/05/2021, Clayton County Police Department officers responded to 911 calls reporting a man threatening neighbors with a firearm at 6965 Maddox Road. Officers confronted Miguel Eduardo Perez Gonzalez outside the residence and continued engagement after he entered and exited the home with a gun. Additional officers arrived and maintained verbal contact as the situation escalated on the porch area. Officers then fired their weapons and struck him while he was holding the firearm. He was transported to a hospital where he died. Reporting indicated neighbors had experienced prior disturbances involving threats directed at nearby homes and that family members later described ongoing mental health struggles preceding the incident. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation conducted the independent review.
