On 12/02/2021, Buffalo Grove Police Department officers responded after Brian Christopher Howard called 911 reporting a man with guns at Mill Creek Park near 1250 Radcliffe Road and then identified himself as the armed individual. Dispatch recordings documented that he stated he had fired rounds and told operators he wanted officers to use lethal force. Officers located him holding two handguns and advanced toward him as he fired shots into the air and continued approaching while armed. Officers shot him and he died at the scene. Family members later described him as deeply valued and supportive within his family network, and a fundraiser was created following his death. Prosecutors later reviewed the case and declined charges against the officers.
