On 01/22/2021, Cocke County deputies responded to a residence at 380 Pierce Rd for a domestic disturbance involving a firearm and encountered an armed individual who refused to cooperate. During contact the person made threats and fired rounds, prompting deputies to withdraw and request tactical assistance. A SWAT team established containment and attempted communication during an extended standoff lasting roughly sixteen hours before entering the home. The individual was found deceased inside from a self inflicted gunshot wound.
