On April 8, 2025, a West Valley City Police officer attempted to stop two motorcyclists reportedly driving at high speed on 3500 South near 3200 West. Officers allegedly called off the chase. One of the motorcyclists promptly turned eastbound onto Parkway Boulevard from 3600 West, lost control, and crashed. The 36-year-old man was pronounced dead at the crash site. The West Valley City Crash Investigation Team is conducting an ongoing investigation into the incident.

On April 8, 2025, Kent Police officers responded to a domestic violence incident involving a firearm at an apartment on the 5500 block of S 259th Street. The 51-year-old male suspect fled in a black pickup truck, leading officers on a high-speed chase that was terminated due to public safety concerns. Authorities later located the suspect at his workplace at 1520 W. Pike Street in Auburn. Valley SWAT Team (VSWAT) arrived and an arrest warrant was issued, permitting officers to forcibly enter the building if necessary. VSWAT employed tactics including the use of a drone, flash bang devices, and chemical munitions and as officers cleared the building, a fire broke out, rapidly consuming the structure and forcing a retreat. Firefighters faced challenges in extinguishing the blaze due to the ongoing safety risk posed by the armed suspect. The building was quickly engulfed, and it took considerable time to bring the fire under control. The suspect is presumed dead, as he was believed to have been the only person inside at the time. The Independent Force Investigation Team has been called in to investigate the incident, and the cause of the fire remains undetermined.

On April 8, 2025, Brayan Rayo-Garzon, a 27-year-old Colombian national, died by suicide while in U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) custody at the Phelps County Jail in Rolla, Missouri. Rayo-Garzon had entered the United States without authorization near San Ysidro, California, on November 13, 2023. An immigration judge ordered his removal to Colombia on June 12, 2024. He was arrested by ICE on March 25, 2025 in St. Louis.
While detained, Rayo-Garzon exhibited health issues, including labored breathing and anxiety. He was diagnosed with tuberculosis and tested positive for COVID-19. A scheduled mental health evaluation was not done due to staffing shortages and his COVID-19 diagnosis. On April 7, he was found unresponsive in his cell, having hanged himself with a bedsheet. He was transported to Phelps Health Hospital and later to Mercy Hospital South in St. Louis, where he was declared brain dead. The Phelps County Coroner ruled his death a suicide. Investigations by the Missouri State Highway Patrol and ICE's Office of Professional Responsibility are ongoing.

On April 7, 2025, around 9:30 p.m., deputies with the Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office attempted to apprehend a male individual in the parking lot of an Extended Stay America hotel near 69th Avenue and Northwest Seventh Street. Deputies had been conducting surveillance and approached him as he entered his vehicle. During the encounter, the man reportedly pointed a firearm at deputies, and they opened fire, killing him. A weapon was recovered from the scene. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is conducting an independent investigation.

On April 7, 2025, around 6:00 a.m., Fresno police responded to a report of a stabbing at a residence on Weber Avenue. Officers located a man in his 60s with multiple stab wounds. He was transported to the hospital and survived. The individual responsible for the stabbing, a man in his 40s, barricaded himself inside the home. A standoff followed. Around 4:30 p.m., officers entered and found the man dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The incident remains under investigation.

A person fled the scene of a robbery in a stolen vehicle. Atlanta Police later spotted the vehicle and attempted a traffic stop, but the driver did not stop. Police escalated a high-speed chase that ran a red light at the intersection of Peachtree Road Northeast and Piedmont Road Northeast in Buckhead and crashed into another vehicle. The bystander driver, Richard O. Wells Jr., was pronounced dead at the crash site.

On April 7, 2025, McIntosh County Sheriff's deputies assisted Checotah Police in responding to an altercation involving John Berry. Around 1:18 a.m. on April 6, 2025, a Fort Wayne police officer attempted to stop a vehicle near East State Boulevard and Hobson Road. The driver refused to stop. Police escalated a pursuit. Moments later, the driver crashed the vehicle into a utility pole. He was pronounced dead at the scene. No other injuries were reported. The driver, 25-year-old Andrew Jackson Ecker, left on foot to his residence on Winding Road. Officers discovered a .22 caliber firearm in his vehicle. Horwitz had been detained since June 3, 2023, facing charges including second-degree murder in the death of her father, prominent dentist Dr. Abbey Horwitz. Alvarado was transported to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Authorities indicated that foul play is not suspected, and the death appears to be a suicide. Prior to his death, Alvarado faced multiple charges across different jurisdictions. On March 19, 2025, he allegedly stole a Bedford Park police squad car while officers were responding to a call. After abandoning the squad car, he reportedly carjacked a USPS truck in Oak Lawn by forcibly removing the postal worker. Subsequently, while driving the stolen USPS truck, Alvarado was involved in a collision in Bridgeview, injuring a mother and her two children, aged 4 and 7.
Alvarado was an electrical engineer and a U.S. Marine combat veteran who served in Iraq. A family spokesperson indicated that he suffered from severe PTSD, which may have contributed to his recent actions.

Police responded to a report of a barricaded man armed with a knife in Doniphan. Bret Winn allegedly stole a vehicle in unincorporated Pierce County around 12:25 p.m. on April 5, 2025, then crashed it and under pursuit, carjacked another near South 56th Street and Pacific Avenue. Tacoma police pursued the man into Puyallup, where Puyallup police deployed spike strips on Valley Avenue. He allegedly exited the second vehicle with a knife. Two Puyallup police officers opened fire and killed him.

On April 5, 2025, at approximately 10:00 a.m., James R. Ingerson was found unresponsive in his cell at the Northern State Correctional Facility in Newport. Prior to his death, Ingerson had reported feeling unwell and was receiving care for an unspecified medical issue. His cellmate discovered him unresponsive and alerted corrections officers. On April 5, 2025, Pocatello Police responded to a disturbance call involving a nonverbal autistic teenager with cerebral palsy who was reportedly holding a kitchen knife in a fenced yard on North Harrison Avenue. Within 12 seconds of arrival, officers commanded 17-year-old Victor Perez to drop the knife. When he did not comply and began to stand, they opened fire, shooting him nine times. Perez underwent multiple surgeries, including the removal of bullets and a leg amputation, before being declared brain-dead. He was removed from life support and died on April 12. Deputies from Cook, Crisp, and Turner counties pursued Newsum's Cadillac north on Interstate 75 at speeds exceeding 100 mph. The chase ended in Dooly County near Exit 109 when deputies used a PIT maneuver. When officers approached her vehicle, Newsum reportedly fired a handgun, striking Turner County Deputy Baily Johnson. Around 2:00 a.m., officers from the Ogden Metro Gang Task Force attempted to arrest a man at Motel 6 on 1206 West 21st Street in connection with a recent armed robbery. Shannon Graham, 35, was wanted for allegedly fatally shooting his girlfriend, Jessica Hoyle, 31, inside her Mickle Avenue home in the Bronx on April 1, 2025. Graham reportedly had ongoing arguments with Hoyle before shooting her. NYPD tracked Graham’s phone to a multi-family residence on Pratt Avenue. Officers from the Emergency Services Unit entered the building, finding Graham on a second-floor landing with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.
