On 10/01/2021, Mishawaka police attempted a traffic stop near the intersection of West Mishawaka Avenue and Liberty Drive after identifying a vehicle connected to a reported armed robbery investigation. Police chased the vehicle when the driver did not stop. The pursuit ended when the vehicle crashed. Officers approached and encountered the driver inside the vehicle. Under unclear circumstances, officers opened fire, striking and killing the man at the scene. Authorities did not release his name publicly.
