OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 06/03/2021, deputies responded to a domestic dispute at a home on Buchanan Highway in Temple and encountered Thomas Brian Buchanan, 41. As deputies and a state trooper approached, Buchanan came outside and fired at law enforcement, then fired additional rounds before retreating inside. Deputies returned fire, SWAT responded, and after hours with Buchanan still inside, he was found dead from a self inflicted gunshot wound, with officials reporting he was not struck by law enforcement gunfire.
