On 01/24/2022, Gulfport Police Department officers attempted to stop a vehicle near Rippy Road and Jeff Road. The driver continued driving and officers escalated a pursuit. During the encounter that followed, officers fired their weapons, striking and killing 35-year-old Ambrose Charles. He died at the scene. The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation reviewed the officers’ use of deadly force.
